Welcome to another BF Pirates 2 update. Lots of work has been going on behind the scenes, with CheetahShrk and Kev readying the next build for the beta testers and HackerX4 almost completed the extensive task of preparing Eturnip’s custom character models for animating and placing in-game.


Let’s start this update off with a boom; our new Cannon! While we haven’t given this cannon a proper name yet, it will be based on the final bore of the barrel we scale the cannon too, ranging from 8 to 12 pounds. This mid-sized cannon can be moved from side to side, but is otherwise stationary, and is best suited for defense from approaching ships.

It’s ammunition is an iron round shot, that will do considerable damage to the hull of your enemies ship, providing you can judge the angle and time your shots just right. Modeled by Ratkin, unwrapped by 1|2Hawk, textured by Tibmaker, and coded/animated by Bunnysnot, this is one weapon to keep an eye and ear out for. Finally we are pleased to show you a render of the new Runabout, which will be in port soon. Taking the communities opinions on the old runabout into consideration, this ship has been completely remodeled from the BFP1 version, so we hope you’ll enjoy it.

This ship is the smallest of mid-sized fleet, providing fast transport for your crew but not is limited to only one swivel cannon. This ship is perfect for raiding parties and those wishing to make a quick capture. The runabout was modeled by Jimmy the Pirate, skinned by Tibmaker, and is soon to be coded by Bunnysnot.

Next we are showing the standard Flintlock Pistol that will be used by the Raider, Gunner, and Surgeon classes. Unlike the pistolet, this weapon is reload-able in addition to being more accurate and capable of inflicting more damage.

It does however; take much longer to reload this pistol then simply draw another pistolet from your bandolier, so keep this in mind when choosing your class. The pistol was modeled by Ratkin, skinned by Tibmaker, and coded by Kev4000.  Here are some of the great props that will help add to the atmosphere in game. These props were modeled by Didi-doom, unwrapped by 12Hawk, and textured by Tib.

Also, we're pleased welcome Kuba as a contributor to our team, he has modeled dozens of props since joining us last week, and we look forward to showing off his work shortly. Lastly, we’re pleased to show you a glimpse of a large shipwreck, the Santa Intoxicata, which will be making its way into the map Pelican Point shortly.  

It will provide players with many spots to defend from and pick off approaching enemies, as well as function as the first Undead flag. Modeled by Jimmy the Pirate and skinned by 1|2Hawk, this monstor of a ship is sure to be a treat both visually and game play wise. No art for you scallywags today unfortunately, Bibi is moving ports and Wegvisor has come down with scurvy, but Wheeljack and myself will be meeting up for some grog shortly to discuss future art and level design plans, so stay tuned for that as well as the announcement of our booty design contest soon!

We had a release date of late August originally planned, but alas that will not be the case. On the bright side, having more time has really benefited many of our departments, and we've been able to add a lot more content into the first release then what was originally planned. Look at it this way; if a fully staffed and paid company like Dice had to delay on the patch 1.4, just think what a small band of volunteers would encounter creating a 17th century full conversion of the game! On that note we'd like to congratulate PoE2 on their first release, as well as thank the entire modding community as a whole for the support they've all given one-another via bfeditor.org.
